More information about this site and its author
This site was started in March of 1997 due to lack of online information about notebook computers. A short while after that, I was the first Notebook/Laptops Guide for the Mining Co. (now About.com) for about a year but didn't have the time to keep up with it. I've just started redesigning this site in October of 2002 (over 5 years later) because it was really stale (many emails to me can attest to that) and because I've found more time to update it.

Here's my old 'FOREWORD' about this site:
Unlike desktops, configurations for notebooks can affect performance drastically. And since most notebooks are not upgradeable and use proprietary parts, then what you buy is what you get. Therefore more research is necessary in order to buy the right system. Hopefully this site will help you in your "Quest" and if I can be of any help just let me know. I have tried to be as accurate as possible but as I am not perfect (or actually, I am very far from it), I am prone to errors. Please e-mail notebook@edgeworld.com with any suggestions, questions or miscellaneous information.

Who am I anyways? When I started this site I neglected to include this info, so here it is:

  • Name: Erick (last name withheld just to give it that "mysterious" factor, but it's easy enough to find out)
  • B.S. in Information and Computer Science
  • Programmer/Consultant
  • Self-proclaimed "Nerd" (but more like "Technology Obsessed")
  • Avid basketball fan (playing and watching... go Lakers and Clippers!)
  • I own 2 notebooks:
    • Compaq Presario M305: Bought refurbished from Compaq
    • Dell Inspiron 4150: Bought new from Dell (with a bunch of discounts)
But this is not a site about me so that's it (and I'm not as interesting as notebook computers anyways).
